Let the Lion Roar!
Over the course of four weeks in June, Summer Camp at Candlelight was a roarin’ awesome time spent investing in the lives of thirty-plus exceptional young people.
Super work, kiddos! I marvel at the variety of lions on the canvas above, creatively drawn and colored by our campers. Original lion masterpieces!
Young people, ages three to seventeen, along with adult helpers, ages 24 to 70 (including a mom with babe in arms!), came from Candlelight, Crestview, and beyond to share our Summer Camp adventure. No one was too young or too old.
This year’s Summer Camp theme was “Let the Lion Roar!” Campers’ enthusiasm for singing (planned and also unsolicited), bucket drumming, painting, cutting and pasting, playing games, throwing water balloons, learning lion facts, telling lion jokes (a mane attraction!) and simply helping out, was definitely roar-worthy!
Originality. Imagination.
Community. Collaboration.
Our camp tradition of playing with water balloons was an effective way to deal with summer heat. For one relay race we ran to a chair, grabbed a balloon from a bucket, and popped the balloon by sitting on it. 😅
On Mondays the Olive Branch YMCA linked arms with us, welcoming our campers to come and swim as a group. Big shout out to the leadership and staff at OB YMCA!
Ahhhh…. 💦💦☀️💦💦 So refreshing.
On day one of summer camp at CandleLight, a first-time volunteer looked around our trailer, packed with children. In happy disbelief she declared, “Karen, you need a bigger space!”
Her words initiated a little happy dance in my heart. 💞 What a great ‘problem’ to have. Yes, we do need a bigger space. And the Lord has already provided that space at Hebron.
So much more to be done, so much MORE TO COME…. Stay tuned! We’re taking the plunge and we’d love to have you at our side!
