LOVE LETTERS WRITTEN IN STONE

On a recent trip north, I spent lots of time walking the shoreline of  Lake Michigan. As I walked and prayed and looked down at the rocks on the sandy shore, I kept seeing hearts. Do you see them? The many beautiful heart-shaped stones– all colors, shapes, sizes, and textures– captured my imagination with a surprise-party of joy. Love letters! These stones are like the individuals we serve in ministry, each stone a unique and precious love letter from God.

I began filling my pockets and my hands with love letters, until I could carry no more. And each day when I came back to walk again I brought bags to carry my treasures. By the time we packed up to drive home, we had four heavy bags of stones in our car! I couldn’t wait to share these stone treasures with our children, who are indeed sweet love letters from God. True treasure….

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Matthew 6:19-21
