“H” VERSES ARE PROMISES

This year we are on our second walk through the alphabet, learning a scripture verse for each letter, A through Z. I’m amazed by the children’s ability to remember verses as we chant them in rhythm or sing them to simple made-up tunes. And I am just as excited as the children are to be hiding these promises in my heart! It’s a joy learning together.

Our most recent verse started with the letter “H.”

Philippians 1:6 promises, “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”  God will do His part to make our lives rich in love and rewarding in purpose. What a comfort and what a relief! But we have to understand our responsibility, too.

That’s where last year’s “H” verse comes in. We need the Holy Spirit’s help in order to make wise choices, overcome bad habits, learn to love from a pure heart, and find the path created for us. The stunning promise we have from Jesus is that when we ask, we will receive. So my daily prayer is born from Jesus’ promise in Luke 11:13: “How much more will the Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask!”

Oh, friends, ask! I am asking for that amazing, powerful gift- the Holy Spirit- every day. And I am teaching the children to ask, too.

What does progress look like as God completes the work He has begun? It looks like love. It looks, like joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. It looks like this….
