CLOTHES, COATS, SHOES, & SOUP!

Containers of soup mix, with messages of love

A sampling of soup mix, with messages of love

New shoes!

New shoes!

On a gorgeous, cloudless October Saturday we “set up shop” outside at our place of ministry. With the help of some young friends who had anticipated our arrival (and were eager to shop), we emptied boxes and bags of clothing in organized chaos atop four back-to-back tables. The monkey bars on the playground were a perfect clothes bar for an abundance of donated coats and jackets received from a local church. Containers of soup mix prepared with love and decorated with personal notes of encouragement (hand-written by children) were stacked on a large table by the coats. And then we brought out nearly eighty pairs of brand new donated tennis shoes to be given away. Indescribable blessings! People we had not met before came and asked about the prices for items. Freely we receive, freely we give. Everything free!

Isn’t the love of God rich?

I have so many images and conversations captured in my heart. But the greatest joy of all is looking in someone else’s eyes… and seeing Jesus.

“…’Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, and thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?…’ The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to the least of these brothers or sisters, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'” Matthew 25:35-40
